The City We Build was a thought-provoking discussion session hosted by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc (JBN) at its Abuja Head Office, bringing together key stakeholders from across the built environment to reflect on the evolution of Abuja and explore what the future holds.

The session convened architects, planners, developers, engineers, and policy influencers to engage in meaningful dialogue on the city’s growth trajectory. Central themes included urban expansion, gentrification, infrastructure resilience, sustainability, and the long-term vision for Nigeria’s capital.

Key discussion points included:

  • The historical planning framework and evolution of Abuja
  • The socio-spatial implications of rapid urbanisation
  • Gentrification and its impact on communities and affordability
  • Infrastructure capacity and future-readiness
  • Strategies for inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development

The deliberations were rich and insightful, aimed at shaping practical guidelines for future development and preparing stakeholders for emerging urban challenges.

The event was convened by Mr. Oliver Berger, whose initiative was widely commended. There is strong optimism that The City We Build will become an annual forum—providing a consistent platform for collaboration, reflection, and forward-thinking dialogue on the future of Abuja.

The session reaffirmed a collective understanding: the quality of the city we inherit tomorrow depends on the decisions, standards, and values we uphold today.
